This week we defined what a need and a want was. We did some sorting activities to decide if the object was a need or a want. We read lots of great stories like A chair for my Mother and discussed what we would save our money for. Then we read Too many toys and we discussed what it means to donate toys like Spencer did in the story. Some other great read aloud books we used this week were Gingerbread Boy and Gingerbread Girl so that we could compare the two stories using a Venn diagram. We also read Gingerbread Baby and worked on describing the setting of the story by using "eagle eyes" to look at the pictures.
In math, we continued to work on story problems. We worked on adding and the strategy of counting on. We held the biggest number in our head and counted on from that number. We also explored some different math games in the classroom. One of the games is played like the card game "war." Each student flips a card and the highest number wins both cards. This is an easy game to play at home as well.
Sight words this week: at, your, was
We have learned how to write all of our lowercase letters. In Fundations we will begin to explore digraphs like: ch, sh, th, wh, and ph.
Monday, December 9th will be Day 3.
