This week and into next week, students have been reading about the First Thanksgiving. Each day they have been learning more about the Pilgrims journey the first year in Plymouth. From the 65 day journey on the Mayflower, through the first tough winter, and to the first Thanksgiving celebration, students have been engaged with the story and shown their learning by writing sentences about the reading each day. We have made a lot of great connections with the Pilgrims and Indians because they worked together and shared just like we do at school. It has been heartwarming to hear the many things they are thankful for. Family seems to be a very common answer!
Students also are working on fun turkey projects to go along with the books The Night Before Thanksgiving, as well as The Great Turkey Race. They will be up in the hallways to see!
In math we focused on graphing blocks by different attributes, as well as graphing our opinions about different survey questions. We also worked on filling in ten frames and compared different ways we could fill a ten frame using two color manipulatives.
Words this week: review week!
Letters this week: y, x
