This week students focused on texts by Jan Brett. Her illustrations lend themselves well for making connections, predictions, and inferences. Students were able to have meaningful discussions about the texts with help from the detailed illustrations by Jan Brett. Students also spent a majority of this week working on comparing and contrasting stories. We read 3 different versions of The Mitten. One version was by Jan Brett, another by Alvin Tresselt, and a third by Jim Aylesworth. We were able to compare characters, settings, as well as the endings to the stories. While the stories shared a lot of similarities, students were also able to discuss differences they noticed too!
In math students are continuing to practice adding and subtracting within ten. We also spent time comparing shapes and discussing similarities and differences while we made different shapes with rope. We will really begin to dig into teen numbers after winter break, so it is important that your child has a strong foundation with the numbers 0-10. Please practice recognizing and writing these numbers when you can!
